INTRODUCTION

THE BUSINESS PROBLEM

Film enthusiasts enjoy trivia but often lack a fun, structured, and social way to test their knowledge and compete with friends who share similar cinematic interests.

THE BUSINESS PROBLEM

Film enthusiasts enjoy trivia but often lack a fun, structured, and social way to test their knowledge and compete with friends who share similar cinematic interests.

RESEARCH GOAL

I aim to understand how people engage with movie trivia and explore whether there is an opportunity to make it a more enjoyable and social experience.

WOULD PEOPLE LIKE IT?

I distributed informal surveys to both casual and avid film watchers, as well as trivia enthusiasts who enjoy testing their knowledge across various categories.

I then analysed the responses to gain insights into the habits and preferences of our target audience.

KEY INSIGHTS

RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS

Users are already engaging with movie trivia, but in fragmented and passive ways.
There's a clear opportunity to create a gamified, social, and movie-specific trivia platform that transforms passive entertainment into active engagement.

LET'S MAKE A CONCEPT

I returned to the drawing board and developed a preliminary concept for the app.

My focus was placed on the following key features:

DOES IT WORK WITH REAL PEOPLE?

DOES IT WORK WITH REAL PEOPLE?

I then proceeded to conduct usability testing with real users to identify areas that were not working effectively and could be improved.

Users responded positively to the concept and particularly appreciated the quiz functionality. There was a notable demand for additional recommendations and social features.

WHAT WE LEARNED

WHAT WE LEARNED

The project has been an enjoyable yet challenging endeavour so far, and there is clearly a gap in the market for this type of product.
It has enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of my target audience and to explore a range of creative ideas.

NEXT STEPS

There is still a lot to unpack before making a fully functional design, these are some of the next steps I will focus on:

BUILDING A MVP

BUILDING A MVP

I am currently developing a minimum viable product (MVP) to further test the design and refine the user experience.

Stay tuned, great things are coming!
